Summer’s back! And the annual challenge to keep your little hooligans busy begins ! After a year of academics, schedules and timetables, summer vacation seems almost like a magical twilight zone for kids to let loose and be themselves. With a plethora of summer camps available, a parent is going to find it hard to zero in on the best for their child. From Nature retreats to robotic camps, arts and craft to baking, yoga, dancing, sport activities and everything in between, the decision can be mind boggling!
Here’s a simple reckoner to help you decide what’s best for your child:
1. Understand your child’s need of a summer camp. The 2- 6 is a special age range but have pretty much the same need for physical, cognitive and spatial exercise. Just because your entire what’s app group has opted for one doesn’t’ necessarily mean its apt for your child too. Do the research. Find camps that deal with your child’s age group.
2. Your child’s age matters. You are not attending summer camp, she is and it is not an additional qualification! Your child has been through a pretty hectic and competitive year. Give her a chance to enjoy herself. Choose something that balances her need for unstructured play as well as cognitive development. Chess, robotics and Vedic math may not be suitable for all.
3. Understand that children come pre loaded with bags of energy. If the camp doesn’t bleed it , your child will fall back on an easily available but negative source such as a screen like Mobiles , TVs, I-pad etc. the longer the camp the better.
Happy Camping
